Maurice White

Looking through the all-important Blues and Soul magazines from decades past it was interesting to see the reaction from Earth Wind and Fires Maurice White to the groups break through pop chart track in the UK.

I have included the interview in which he talks about Charles Stepney. The influence and talents of Charles as producer, songwriter, and keyboard player should not be under estimated.

Before writing and production work with Maurice on Earth Wind and Fire albums, they had worked together at Chess Records. Charles had huge success with The Dells, Ramsey Lewis, Minnie Ripperton and made three fantastic albums with Terry Callier.

Among writing contributions to EWF were That’s The Way Of The World and Reasons. He had a heart attack and died aged just 45

Biggest EWF UK chart hit was September, which reached number 3 in 1978.

What a great piece of history &.good to see him mentioning Ramsey Lewis as anyone who saw Ramsey at Ronnie Scotts heard how much he thought of Maurice.

    Thanks for this Robbie.
I hope the group put out something out in 2016
I have just moved home again, I have quite a few Blues and soul mags going back as far as late 78, mainly stored around my dear old dad’s place as my place is quite small in terrms of storage, Just like audio cassettes I ought to be digging them out a bit more frequently.
I will check your link to this article out on my PC as at the moment it is a bit hard to read on this phone especially in the brilliant sunshine which I hope we get more of later today.
    Cheers again.
    Best Regards
