Seven More For The Summer

Summer Fling – The O’Jays. Circa 1984.

Naughty or Nice or Naughty and Nice. The perfect tune as a reminder of that summer holiday romance.

Just The Two Of Us Grover Washington Junior and Bill Withers (cut from 1980 album Winelight).

I can hear this being played on a balmy night aboard one of those classic canal boats chugging along one of Europe’s fine waterways. (only need to stop for a riverside breakfast lunch or dinner)

Everybody Loves The Sunshine – Roy Ayers. 1976.

Everyone loves Roy Ayers and we adopted him to be a UK favourite import from America. On keyboards Philip Woo who later became long time member of Maze. The track was much sampled by several hip-hop artists plus Incognito and Mary J Blige. Even Brazilian artist Seu Jorge cut a slice.

Perfect summer track for sipping a cocktail or alcohol free Iced Tea.

Watching Life – La Boppers.

Formed in LA by Augie Johnson who went on to produce Light of the Worlds Round Trip album. This 1980 release smacks of summer rhythms. More popular in the UK than America the track is perfect for people watching while the sun shines.

Take Ten-Paul Desmond Circa 1973

The man who wrote the big Dave Brubeck hit Take Five. A rare jazz based track to make the pop charts it got to number 6 in 1961. This Take Ten tune is the 1973 recording featuring Bob James, Ron Carter on bass and Gabor Szabo guitar. Ralph McDonald does the percussion. It is just great ear refreshment with jazzy rhythms perfect for a summer’s day.

New Morning- Sabrina Malheiros. Summer of 2009.

This is proof that music can make it feel sunny even if the real thing has gone on the missing list. In a great Brazilian bossa samba style the rework by Nicole Conte is a winner. The national Brazilian cocktail Caipirinha is the perfect mix for these rhythms. Made with sugarcane-based liquor Cachaca, pop a generous helping of limes to your glass with lots of ice and some sugar and off you samba all night long. The vodka version is called Caipiroska.

Message In Our Music – The O’Jays.

Perfect tune for singing and dancing on the beach.

Hi Robbie, all good tunes although Iam not all that familiar with the Sabrina Malheiros track, so I will be checking that out. yes they do weave a bit of mind magic!, repainting memories, Sunny days or even
a balmy hot August night, no wind, much humidity talking into the dreaming hours with a glass or two and one Crusaders bit of 70’s magic just audible on the music player also does it for me ‘Nightcrawler’. evokes those kinds of memories for me,
    Thanks again Robbie
    Best Regards
