In this Blues and Soul chart from August 1977 I included top tracks from both the BBC Radio London and Radio 1 programmes.

The Emotions are number one with Best Of My Love and Flowers. Both tracks powered by EWF production and writing skills as the Emotions (sisters Wanda,Sheila and Pamela Hutchinson) had signed to Maurice Whites Kalimba Production company.

They joined Kalimba when the mighty Stax label folded and like Maurice came from Chicago.

The female vocals on EWF Boogie Wonderland are The Emotions and their hit Best Of My Love featured in legal action involving Mariah Carey. Writer Maurice White said her 1991 hit Emotions had sampled the song without permission. The issue was settled out of court.

Lenny Williams, Jean Carn, Patrice Rushen, Isley Brothers, Whispers, Marlena Shaw and the fabulous Hollywood track from Rufus and Chaka Khan a chart to be proud of.

From a time when I was just 14 and my older peers were beginning to influence me musically and radio wise

Those were magical times for me Robbie with Soul and jazz being the new soundtrack to my Friday nights and with you on Saturdays too, Greg, Louie, and Martin Collins following on Chiltern and even Tony Valence in 79 for a short time on BBC Medway when I was staying in Kent on holiday, followed by me religiously buying Bues and soul, Record mrror etc for years for James Hamilton’s and others reviews.
    Best regards

1976-1980. Living and working in London town. Saturday was THE day. RV comes on late in the afternoon. Getting pumped for Saturday night. Warmed up, and then some Gregg Edwards over on Capital 194. 9pm jump in the car, drive from Croydon up to the West End. Get to La Valbonne on Kingley St, around 9.45 pm. Walk up the stairs, past the line, greet Paul, the door manager, and into heaven. Party till 3 am. Danced ny socks off. Chain smoked back then, as we all did. Best time of my life…period. Thanks Robbie. You and the music changed me and my life forever.
